Being Radical:
"Radical Christianity is when it is not convenient or equitable to be a Christian, but you still decide you’re going to be one anyway, no matter what. Radical Christian behavior started with Jesus who was simply imitating His Father."
~ Dr. Kevin L. Zadai
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.
Luke 23:34 NLT
DISCUSSION:
Radical Christianity isn’t known until persecution comes. Jesus was radical, and many people didn’t like what He was saying. Jesus said to them, “You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins” (John 8:23-24). Jesus was essentially saying that if they did not accept Him, they would have to face judgment. He said things like, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM” (John 8:58). Jesus was letting them know He was of God, and the religious people didn’t like that because He was challenging them. Jesus stood up for what was right.
From today’s verse, we can see that even after Jesus did what was right, He was punished for it and was nailed to a cross. He said, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they are doing.”
Jesus said,
“Blessed are you when men hate you, And when they exclude you, and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of Man’s sake. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven”
(Luke 6:22-23).
The disciples had to count the cost of what it was like to be a Christian and follow Jesus. They witnessed miracles with Jesus, and they were persecuted for their belief.
There is a time where you have to step out and be radical for Jesus and stand up for Him. Jesus doesn’t look at the naysayers or the people coming against Him. The Bible says He just sits there and laughs because His enemies are coming to nothing (see Psalm 2:4). Learn to rejoice when you are mistreated or persecuted because your reward is in Heaven. God will cause you to triumph over every situation. Radical Christianity believes that you have received something before you have it. You know that what you are asking for, God desires to give it to you.
Being radical in your faith is when you are anointed with the Holy Spirit and fire, and you don’t back off of your calling and what you know God has for you. What is in you is so valuable that satan wants to steal the seed. He wants to come against the Word of God in us, and persecution arises for the Word’s sake. “Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble” (see Mark 4:17).
The devil knows that if the Word of God gets in you, it will produce fruit; thirty, sixty, and one hundredfold (see Mark 4:8). He wants to get the Word of God out of you and get you frustrated, so you will come out of it and not hold it dear. The Word of God is greater and is very valuable so hold onto it. Whenever you hear a good word, cover it in the blood, and let it germinate inside of you. The blood of Jesus has defeated satan, and Jesus has made a show of him openly. Take a radical stand for Jesus and have radical faith!
